A Short History of The New Resident Club of Cape Coral

The following is an exerpt from an article in the Cape Coral Breeze dated May 18, 1967:

"Mrs. Helen Peck submitted a plan to serve the Chamber of Commerce as an "Ambassador of Good Will." She outlined the proposal designed primarily to greet newcomers as soon as they arrived at the Cape, plan receptions and create early acquaintance with Cape Coral merchants and their stores. Besides other speakers, the merchants would be invited to meet the newcomers at "coffee and doughnuts sessions."

This was the birth of the New Resident Club of Cape Coral. The first officers of the club were elected at a meetng on October 3rd, 1967. The article below is announces the first executive board. Each board serves for six months, from October through March and from April through September. We are currently governed by the 69th executive board. (October 2001 to March 2002).

The New Resident Club grew rapidly through the late '60s and early '70s. The monthly meetings were held on the first Tuesday of each month from the beginning of the club. Their pot luck dinners, dances, outings and other activities were all announced in the Cape Coral Breeze. Originally the club was for women only. This continued until the late '80's when it became open to any new resident of Cape Coral. From this early start the New Resident Club of Cape Coral has grown to an average membership of approximately 500 people.
